Enterprise vs. Lifestyle

Just a week or so ago, the Inc. 5000 for 2020 list was released. This is Inc.'s annual ranking of the top 5000 fastest-growing privately held companies. These companies reflect a 165% median growth with a total of over $209 billion in revenue. Of the 5,000, 3,149 companies were repeats on the list. Pretty impressive. Several of the people or companies that are shown on the list are those I know or follow. Perhaps they are a vendor for my note business, or there is some other association with…

Small Fish in a Big Pond

I've never really played in the arena with a big advantage. I remember back in the days of being a mortgage loan officer, the companies I worked for never had the best pricing, never really had the best systems, and never had the best marketing. Everything I earned was due to my work, and the team I had around me. I had to do it the old fashioned way:…

Finding the Common Denominator

was pretty good at math in grade school. About the same when I got to high school. But college was a totally different matter. Seems that algebra in high school was in a different language at college. Math 95 was not my strong suit. I remember on the first day, the "professor" wrote one simple equation on the chalkboard. We had about 10 minutes to figure it out. After 10 minutes, he said anyone that hadn't figured this one out probably shouldn't be in class. Since I was a PhysEd major and…

Happy Independence Day 2020!!

This will likely be the most unusual Independence Day you will ever experience. Most of us will likely stay at home and our celebrations will be muted. But we cannot forget the freedoms our forefathers provided to us. To steal a phrase from one of my investors from earlier in the day, "it is worth observing, during this holiday weekend, the opportunity and freedom…

Webinar Replay - Various Ways to Invest in Notes

Video Replay ~ Various Ways to Invest in Notes

A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of presenting a webinar to a group of investors in Ohio. There was a bit of a mix up in the registration link, so I know some of you were not able to access the live webinar. I just received a copy of the webinar, and I offer it to you at the link below.

The webinar lasts just under 90 minutes and provides a high-level overview of various ways to invest in notes. These are not the only ways…

Moving from Thoughts to Feelings to Actions to Results

T > F > A > R

I am sure most of us have been working from home for several weeks, or teleworking as we call it in our office. I like the term teleworking, as this implies I don't need to be at home. As mentioned before, one of the concepts I like about note investing is that I can handle all the tasks anywhere in the world, provided I have access to the internet. While the majority of my day is spent attending to the… Continue

The Game is Won in the 4th Quarter!

I was a pretty big sports fan growing up. I still am, to a degree, but I don't take the time to watch games as I once did. Of all the games, my favorite was basketball. Now, a little-known secret: I tried to walk on for the Junior Varsity team at the University of Oregon. I almost became a Kamikaze Kid, I was…

Back to School? Already?

Mrs. Trotter was my 4th-grade teacher. She had a penchant for spelling. Every Monday morning we were greeted with a list of 20 new words to study for the week. Friday was test day. If you got in trouble in Mrs. Trotter's class, she made you write a full page out of the dictionary, to…

I Love It When a Plan Comes Together

The "A-Team" was a very popular show back in the early 1980's. The premise of the show was a former Special Forces group that was wrongfully imprisoned (an escaped) for a deed they didn't commit, attempted…

I Have All the Time There Is!

Costco is one of my favorite stores. They built one just after we moved into our house so that I can go there at least three times a week. They have clothes that fit, my favorite coffee, roasted chicken and a large selection of organic fruits and vegetables. Plus, when I need it, I can get a gallon of that Dijon mustard I really…

The Lure of a Vision

I used to go fishing a lot more than I do now. In fact, I was a bit of a fly fisherman. I had a fly-tying kit, would try to get inside the mind of a rainbow trout, and tie a fly I thought they would want to eat. At the time, I had a small creek that ran behind my house. I would envision a new fly, tie it up,  wait…

Sharpening the Axe

I remember hearing a story in my youth about two burly lumberjacks that had bragged they were the fastest tree fallers in the state. After all, living in the Pacific Northwest we heard lots of lumberjack stories. Both were large, strong men and knew their way around an axe and timber country. Wanting to settle the debate,…

Happy Easter!! A short message

Happy Easter, everyone. Because of the significance of this day, this will be short. We've got some pork loin slow cooking in the kitchen and the house is full of that aroma.

We are at the end of the first quarter of 2018, and I am behind on my note purchasing goals, but still encouraged. We have plenty of…

Seventeen Inches!

For the past 2 years I've been diligently typing out my journey with my note investing business. Each of those emails have always been my own creation, thoughts and experiences. Today, however, I ran across this writing that speaks a lot to a way of doing things. So with baseball starting Spring Training this past week, I do hope you enjoy and see my point.

In Nashville, Tennessee, during the first week of January, 1996, more that 4,000 baseball coaches descended upon the Opryland…
