The Real Estate Investor's Magazine

I've heard it said that you can't invest in idealism. Something has to give. Either the return gets truncated, or the ideals get trampled. The most touted investments in idealism are micro-loans to African and South American indigineous peoples. While most who invest in these areas do so for the sense of contributing to the greater good, the returns are modest financially.

What RealSmart is doing does not change lives anywhere nearly as dramatically as the mirco-loans. However, what we do makes an impact.

Recently, we completed a major renovation of a home in San Diego County on a property that had become not just an eyesore to the neighbors, but had been consistently the most troubled home on the block. Just five years ago, this street had been home to prostitutes and drug dealers. With serious effort from the neighbors, this street has seen a rebirth. Our contribution was a piece of that mission - to improve the neighborhood.

In 90 days, we were able to take a tired property in a resurgent neighborhood and make it the best looking home on the street. Additionally, we were able to make a 40.00% IRR return for our investor.

The gratitude from the neighbors was significant. Nearly a dozen homeowners on the street have personally thanked us for improving the neighborhood - and their own home values. Our investor has thanked us for being good stewards of his money.

If you would like to be a part of making a difference AND making a return, please feel free to contact us.
